1966 Fender Precision Bass, Sunburst

  • Sale
  • Regular price £6,750.00

1966 Fender Precision Bass in good condition with a sunburst finish over an Alder body. Serial:160685.  All original bass. The case has a 67-71 logo - it may well be that the bass didn't sell through a shop until 67 and this was the case supplied with it, it's impossible to tell. The bridge cover has been fitted off-centre and as there is no additional screw hole it must have been like this all along. It has a wide, slim C-profile maple neck with a beautifully figured rosewood fingerboard, a 7.25" radius and pearl dots. Supplied with a 3-month warranty and 14-day returns policy.

The red in the Sunburst finish has faded leaving more of a 2 & 1/2 burst. There's light lacquer checking throughout the finish and a few scuffs and dings, mainly around the edges. There is also some buckle rash on the back of the body. The neck displays some general playwear but no major dings. The frets are in great shape with plenty of life left in them. The headstock has a few small dings around the edges and some light lacquer checking but everything remains structurally sound with no breaks or repairs. It's an all-around excellent bass, a joy to play and sounds incredible.

This bass has been fully set up in our workshop and is strung with a fresh set of D'Addario round-wound strings. The neck is date stamped May 66 C. Both pots date to the 11th week of '66. Only one half of the pickup has a visible date which is June '66. Both have original winds. Weight: 8 lbs 11 oz / 3.94 kg. Nut width: 44.4 mm, depth at 1st fret 21.6 mm.
