1979 Gibson G3 Bass, Natural

  • Sale
  • Regular price £2,750.00

1979 Gibson G3 in excellent condition, Natural finish over an Alder body. All original, including the case. Serial: 73329024. Weight: 9 lbs 4.5 oz / 4.21 kg. Nut width: 41.5 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 22

The finish has some minor surface marks and a few small dings, but nothing major. The frets are also in excellent condition. This bass has been fully set up in our workshop with a set of D'Addario roundwound strings. It has a lovely, smooth action and great tonal options.

It has an arrow-shaped headstock inspired by the flying V. Contoured body edge vaguely echoes the SG, its offset horns were clearly reminiscent of other popular makes, as was its bolt-on neck (4 bolt). The strings go through the body allowing for greater sustain and this bass definitely has that, along with a superb tone.

The G3 features three single-coil pickups wired in a humbucking configuration. The pickups were designed by Bill Lawrence. The pickup selector works as follows: Forward position activates the front and middle pickups in a humbucking configuration. The back position activates the middle and back pickup in the same manner. The middle position activates all three pickups for what Gibson coined a "buck-and-a-half".
