Early 1977 Music Man Stingray, Natural

  • Regular price £4,500.00

Early 1977 Music Man Stingray. The pickup is a first generation with long pole pieces and a white cover. It's in very good condition and has a natural finish, a black pickguard and a maple neck & fretboard. It is equipped with a 2-band EQ, epoxy-coated preamp and through-body stringing. Aside from one pot, the output jack, and an added ground wire across the pots, it's all original including the case. The replaced pot is a period-correct CTS unit from 1979. The output jack is the switchable type introduced in mid/late '79 to disconnect the battery when the lead was unplugged. (perhaps the pot and jack were warranty replacements in 1979?) Initially, all pre-amps remained permanently turned on. Removal of the guitar lead did not disconnect the battery. The current drain was considered to be low but battery drain did occur. It comes with a 3-month warranty and a 14-day returns policy.

There's general wear and tear with a number of small dings and scuffs to the body as well as some wear around the edges and some buckle rash on the back. The headstock also has some small dings/scuffs around the edges. The back of the neck is pretty clean overall but does have a couple of small dings and there's also some light wear to the fretboard (around frets 1-7). The frets are in great condition and have been cleaned and dressed in our workshop.

It's been fully set up in our workshop with a fresh set of Ernie Ball round-wound strings and has great action allowing for superb playability up and down the neck. The serial number is B002462.  Weight: 10 lbs 9.5 oz / 4.8 kg. The neck and body are both date stamped, Dec 1977. The volume and treble pots date to mid '77 and the bass pot to early '79. The truss rod works as intended with plenty of room to move. Nut Width: 42.4 mm. Depth at 1st fret 20.7 mm.
