Beautiful 1973 Rickenbacker 4001, rare Burgundyglo finish with checkerboard binding in extremely good condition. All original including the hard case. Supplied with a 3-month warranty and a 14-day returns policy. Serial MD 1451. (Apr 1973) Weight 8lbs 14.5oz / 4.04kg. Nut width 42.1 mm. Depth at 1st fret 23.1 mm.
Early Burgundyglo finishes are very dark (sometimes referred to as eggplant - up to '74 when the finish became lighter) meaning that the bass looks almost black, unless under bright sunlight or a stage light where a purple hue is visible. It has checkered binding on the body, white (now cream-coloured) binding on the neck & wide pearl inlays. The toaster & lead pickups sound fantastic with strong output. The wavy Grover tuners are clean and fully functioning.
The neck is clean and straight with only one or two small dings/scuffs on the back. The frets are in great shape having been cleaned and dressed in our workshop. The headstock has a few small scuffs along the top edge. There are a couple of tiny dings on the front of the body and some minor scuffing on the back but nothing major. This is one outstanding and rare bass, it's also great fun to play and has that killer Rick tone.
All hardware and electronics are in fine working order. The pots date to early '73. The truss rods are fully functioning and the action has been set nice and low in our workshop with a set of black Rotosound tape-wound strings.
