1965 Hofner 500/1 Beatle Bass in very good condition. This is a very cool German-built Violin Bass. It's a great player with an excellent warm and woody thump. It has a spruce top with Maple back and sides and a Rosewood fingerboard.
It's fitted with new Hofner tuners, tea cup control knobs and has one replaced potentiometer. This bass was previously fitted with different tuners. As a result there are extra screw holes in the back of the headstock and the holes for the tuner posts were enlarged. (now plugged to fit Hofner tuners) Otherwise original including the Selmer tweed case.
The electronics are in good working order and the staple pickups sound great. This Hofner has aged beautifully. It has 22 frets, plus a zero fret for smoother playing, improved intonation, and better sustain. There are a few tiny bits of wear on the front of the body, the back of the body is very clean with very little wear.
It's been fully set up with a set of Hofner short scale flat-wound strings, it has a straight neck and a smooth action. It's nice and light as you would expect weighing only 4lbs 8oz. The original pot stamps read- 250K 145 (the last digit is the year). Nut width 40.7 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 22mm.
