1965 Fender Jaguar, serial L65579, Sunburst finish in excellent + condition. It has a tortoise pickguard and a rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots. The bridge cover is missing and the neck pickup has been rewound to original spec by Lee Lavarack of Toltec Guitars in Leeds - otherwise all original and complete including the case. It comes with a 3-month warranty and a 14-day returns policy.
The three-tone sunburst remains vibrant with minimal fading. The body finish has a few small nicks and scuffs but nothing major. The back of the neck is very clean with only light play-wear. The headstock has a few small scuffs along the top edge but is otherwise very clean. All hardware is original and works perfectly, including the trem arm and truss rod. The mute sponge had hardened and shrunk over time and will need replacing. The original frets are in great shape having been dressed in our workshop and have plenty of life left in them. The guard is fully intact with no cracks and only minor shrinkage.
This guitar has been set up in our workshop with a fresh set of D'addario 10-46 strings and low action. The neck is stamped MAR 63 B. The volume & tone pots both date to the 8th week of '65. The Jaguar was launched in 1962 as another top-of-the-line guitar in the same vein as the Jazzmaster. Both guitars shared the modern offset body shape and distinct floating tremolo system. The Jaguar differed in its use of a shorter 24-inch scale length and stronger single-coil pickups, which were encased in notched covers to shield the electronics from external radio noise (a typical annoyance with the Jazzmasters soapbars). Both guitars integrated a unique dual rhythm/lead circuit design, yet on the Jaguar the lead circuit includes three switches: on-off for the front pickup, on-off for the back pickup, and a bass-cut switch that adds an extra capacitor to the signal.
