1985 Fender Performer Bass, Gun Metal Blue Metalic

1985 Fender Performer Bass, made in Japan, Gun Metal Blue Metalic finish in good condition. There's a route around the neck pickup ( under the guard) for a precision pickup. The pots have been changed. ( for 250K CTS) Otherwise original including the case. There a few small nicks and dings in the body finish and headstock (mainly around the edges) the back of the neck is very clean as are the frets with very little wear showing. Fully set up by in our workshop, medium-low action and a straight neck. All hardware and electronics are in good working order and the truss rod is fully functional. Serial E552015.  Weight 8lbs 1.5oz. Nut width: 37.85mm. Depth at 1st fret: 23.25mm.

It has an alder body, with a bolt-on 34" 24-fret micro-tilt adjustable maple neck and a 2-octave rosewood fingerboard. Controls are: Volume, Pickup Selector Switch and TBX Circuit Control (Treble Bass eXpander). The latter provided the same tonal range as the jazz bass between 0 and 5, with the range 5-10 providing a significantly brighter sound for solo playing and slap.

The Performer was produced for only one year between 1985-1986 by Fender Japan during that strange period in Fender's history in which there was no USA guitar production happening. It was originally designed as a bass (the guitar came later) by John Page, who has commented that the original intention was that it would be an Elite version of the Jazz Bass! The angular body shape was in fact inspired by the Fender Strat - flip one over and note the shape that the flat surface makes. Once largely ignored by Fender enthusiasts, the Performer has recently grown in popularity and second-hand value.
