1959 Fender Precision Bass in very good condition. The combination of see-thru blonde with a gold guard and a rosewood fingerboard is a rare combination to find, especially in all origonal condition. Supplied in an original brown tolex Fender hard case. The previous owner purchased this bass from the late, great Alan Rogan. (Paperwork/provenance included) Alan was Pete Townsends tech from the mid-70s through to his passing in 2019. He was also a player himself as well as a keen vintage guitar collector. I had the pleasure of meeting Alan and selling him a Harmony H22 bass in 2016. After a brief Mexican standoff over the price ( a common practice when 2 northerners are involved), the deal was done.
This bass is absolutely fantastic - made in mid-1959. The body is dated 7-59 in the pickup cavity; as is usual with Fenders from this period, there is no neck date. The blonde finish has yellowed over time and has a number of small dings and patches of wear, including buckle rash on the back. The neck has a slim C profile and moderate wear through the finish. The headstock is adorned with the old "Spaghetti" Fender logo decal and is in great shape with just some minor scuffs around the edge.
It's been fully set up in our workshop with a fresh set of La Bella Super Polished roundwound strings; it has a straight neck and low action. Serial:39274. Nut width: 44mm. Depth at 1st fret: 20.5 mm. Weight: 8 lbs 14 oz / 4.03 kg. Pickup DC resistance: 12.16 k.
