Early '70s Ibanez 2355, Natural, Flame Top

Early '70s Ibanez 2355, Natural, flame top in Excellent ++ condition. This guitar, model 2355 (NT), is nearly identical in dimensions, scale and bracing to the Gibson ES-175. Ibanez catalog pictures and the headstock shape lead us to date the manufacture to around 1973. There is a serial number inside back of the body (RV22695) although many of these early models had no serial number at all so i'm not sure if this was applied at the factory. Supplied in a hard-shell case.

Three-piece solid maple neck with adjustable truss rod; figured maple top, back and sides; compensated ebony bridge; rosewood fingerboard; mother of pearl block fingerboard inlays and peg-head inlay; 5-ply body binding and pickguard, bound fingerboard, bound f-holes. 3 way pickup selector switch and independent volume and tone controls. Twin humbucking pickups.

In the early 70's Ibanez set out to make high-precision replicas of Gibson's top-end instruments. So successful were they that Gibson sued to stop production, which was subsequently halted under court order. Now known as 'lawsuit' models, these guitars have become legendary for their rarity, and scrupulous faithfulness to the originals.

The body finish is almost entirely free of wear apart form one small ding on the front. The back of the neck is immaculate. The headstock has a few dings around the edges. The frets are in great shape and all hardware & electronics are in excellent working order. There are no breaks or repairs. Everything remains structurally sound.

This guitar has been fully checked over & set up in our workshop with a set of flat-wound strings and is an all-round excellent sounding and playing guitar. Set up with a low action allowing for very smooth movement around the fretboard. It has a big rich tone both plugged in and acoustically.  Serial: RV22695. Weight: 7 lbs 2 oz / 3.23 kg. Nut width: 44 mm / depth at 1st fret: 19.5mm
