1966 Fender Precision Bass, Sunburst

1966 Fender Precision Bass with a sunburst finish, tortoise-shell guard and a rosewood fingerboard. This one has seen a fair few nights on the road, as can be seen by the play wear. It's an amazing player with an incredible neck. When the bass came to us it had 3 screw holes in the front face of the upper horn and one on the front face of the headstock, all have been filled and smoothed over. My guess is that the the body holes were from an alternate pickguard being fitted at some point? The headstock screw hole may well have been for a strap button, but why why someone would do that, I do not know! There is also one extra hole in the pickguard ( and into the body wood underneath) from where a previous owner had placed the thumb rest. Both metal ashtray covers are missing. The bass is otherwise original, including the case.

The body finish has plenty of play wear and battle scars which are mainly around the edges of the body but also a few large scratches in the front and some buckle rash on the back. There is also some light lacquer checking but is remarkably clean for a bass of this age and the Sunburst is still vibrant. The finish on the back of the neck has light to medium wear but is overall very clean as is the headstock. Despite the obvious signs of play wear to the body, the frets show very little wear at all and the neck shows no signs of a re-fret. This bass came in with a very old set of flats on it which could well have been on there for a very long time.

It's been fully set up in our workshop with a fresh set of nickel Rotosound round-wound strings and has a straight neck and a great action. Serial:137469. The neck stamp reads SEP 66 C.
