1978/81 Fender Jazz Bass, Black

1978/81 Fender Jazz bass with original case, Black finish, C-shaped Maple neck and 7.25" radius fingerboard. All original including the case.

This bass is in excellent condition with very little play wear. There are one or two tiny dings to the finish. The frets have very little wear.

I've listed this bass as 78/81 because the serial number indicates 78 but the pots date to 81 and the pickup winds have very light wire. During the years 1978 - 1982 Fender guitars showed even less consistency in terms of serial numbers than their earlier 70s predecessors. Some of the necks at the end of the 70s ended up unused until the early 80s.

This bass is a joy to play with a superb even sound right across the fretboard, it has a straight neck which is very slim at the nut, and there's tons of room in the truss rod. It's been fully set up by my technician with a fresh set of strings and sounds amazing.

It is however very heavy, weighing in at 11lbs 13oz. Serial: S866159. Nut Width: 38.9mm/ depth at 1st fret: 21.09mm.
