1966 Fender Precision Bass with a beautiful Candy Apple Red finish in very good condition. Serial: L82395. It's nice and light weighing only 8 lbs 12.5 oz / 3.99 kg. Supplied in an original period correct Fender no logo case.
The serial number sits in the 1965 range but the neck date and pots are dated to to 66. Whilst this is certainly unusual there is good evidence that this bass left the factory as is. The paint on the back of the neck plate mirrors the paint lifted from the body - the same is true to a lesser extent on the back of the neck at the heel which mirrors the neck pocket. It is clear that the neck plate belongs with the body given the finish transference and the same is true of the neck and the body for the same reason.
There are several chips and dings in the finish around the edges of the body but overall this bass is in great condition. The neck and headstock are generally very clean with just some light scuffing, particularly around the edge of the headstock. It's an all-round excellent bass, a joy to play and sounds incredible.
This bass has been fully set up in our workshop with a set of Rotosound, black nylon tape-wound strings and low action. The neck is date-stamped June 66 C. Both pots date to early 66. The pickups have original winds and date to '66. Nut width: 44mm, depth at 1st fret 20.5 mm. Pickup DC resistance 9.61k.
