1969 Gibson SG Special, Cherry

1969 Gibson SG Special, cherry. Large guard with Vibrola. It's in very good condition. There are 3 additional screw holes under each tuner strip from previously being fitted with what appear to have been kluson deluxe, judging the outline. Otherwise original guitar including the case. The case handle has ben replaced with cable ties.

These specials have hot, P-90 pickups, on a lightweight mahogany body. This Guitar has a few small scuffs and dings in the finish, mainly around the edges of the body and headstock. The back of the neck is relatively clean. The frets have minor signs of wear but still have plenty of life left in them. Fully set up in our workshop with a fresh set of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings. Serial number: 899921. Weight: 6 lbs 12 oz. It has a chunky neck with a nut width of 40mm/ depth at the 1st fret: 23 mm/ depth at 12th fret: 28mm.

The Gibson SG Special was introduced in 1961 as a "mid-level" guitar. This set-neck mahogany guitar was a step up from the SG Junior with a pair of P-90 pickups, three-way switching, individual volume and tone controls, and a bound neck with dot inlays. 1966 saw a slight redesign of the SG Special, introducing a larger pickguard that went across the pickups and mid-way through the upper bout. 1966 also saw this model get the Vibrola tailpiece as standard, though stoptail models trickled out until early 1967.
