1962 Fender Jaguar, serial 86354Sunburst finish in very good condition. It has a beautiful tortoise pickguard with minimal shrinkage and no cracks or breaks. This is a very early example of the Jaguar guitar as it has a May 62 neck stamp and a slab rosewood fingerboard with clay dots. The bridge cover is no longer with the guitar. I believe the neck pickup has been re-wound due to a different colour to the wire and the solder joints appear to have been re-heated. Otherwise all original including the brown tolex case.

This is a lovely guitar overall showing typical wear but nothing too serious. The body finish has moderate checking along with small dings and scuffs. It also has a patch of buckle rash along the edge of the belly cut-away. There is also some wear along the back of the neck, giving it a worn-in feel. All hardware is original and works perfectly, including the trem arm and mute, which is functional but the original foam has hardened as is typical. This can be replaced if desired. The original frets are in great condition and have been cleaned and dressed in our workshop. The neck is straight and the truss rod is fully functional with no issues.

This guitar has been set up in our workshop with a fresh set of D'Addario nickel-wound 9-42 strings and a low action. The neck is stamped Aug 65 B. Serial 86354. The pots both date to the 18th week of 62. Original black bobbin pickups. Weight 7 lbs 14.5 oz. Nut width: 41.2 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 20.4 mm. Width at 12th fret: 51.2. Depth at 12th fret 24.9 mm.  3-month warranty included.

The Jaguar was launched in 1962 as another top-of-the-line guitar in the same vein as the Jazzmaster. Both guitars shared the modern offset body shape and distinct floating tremolo system. The Jaguar differed in its use of a shorter 24-inch scale length and stronger single-coil pickups, which were encased in notched covers to shield the electronics from external radio noise (a typical annoyance with the Jazzmasters soapbars). Both guitars integrated a unique dual rhythm/lead circuit design, yet on the Jaguar the lead circuit includes three switches: on-off for the front pickup, on-off for the back pickup, and a bass-cut switch that adds an extra capacitor to the signal.
