1997 Gibson '60s Dove, Natural

1997 Gibson '60s style Dove, Natural finish over a spruce top, with a cherry finish over the flamed maple back and sides. Theres also some flame top the back of the neck. Original case and paperwork included. Excellent + condition. Fitted with an L.R Baggs Anthem SL pickup.

Made in the Bozeman, Montana plant under the direction of Ren Ferguson, these guitars are considered to be amongst the finest ever built by Gibson. During the 1990s, the Gibson Montana acoustic guitar facility desired to make guitars in very much the style of the originals, which is why this guitar is called a “’60s Dove” and not just a “Dove.” It has a black-bordered white truss rod cover etched and blackened with the word "Dove". The headstock  has the “Gibson” postwar script logo in mother of pearl and the Gibson crown below. There is a large winged rosewood, with two mother of pearl bird shaped inlays. The saddle is compensated and made of bone, the nut appears to be tusq.

This guitar is in excellent condition and in perfect working order. There are a few very minor scratches that may polish out by hand and a couple of more obvious scratches that may need a little more effort. ( one just above the strap pin/jack socket and the other running parallel with the back stripe at the butt end).  There are no cracks, repairs, or issues. The neck is straight and the original frets are in excellent condition with very little wear. It's been fully checked over in our workshop and set up with a fresh set of strings and a great action. Nut width:44.6 mm. Depth at 1st fret 21.6 mm. Weight: 5lbs 0.5oz. Serial:93427021.

The Dove was introduced in 1962 as Gibson's second square-shoulder dreadnought after the Hummingbird. The two models are set apart by the Dove's longer scale length as well as its use of Maple instead of Mahogany for its back and sides. The Dove has a scale length of 25.5" whereas the Hummingbirds scale length is 24.75. The scale length of the Dove, combined with the use of maple back and sides give more of a balance tonal response with more bass and treble response. It is therefore brighter sounding than an acoustic with Mahogany back and sides ( like the Hummingbird - which tends to have more mid-range )
