1965 Gibson SG Junior, Cherry

Early 1965 Gibson SG Junior with maestro vibrato, Cherry finish in excellent condition, nickel parts. Wide 42.8 mm nut. The pickup was recently rewound by Lavarack guitars in Leeds. It comes in a brand new Gator hard case. 3-month warranty included.

The Gibson SG Junior was introduced in 1960. The budget model of the new SG line quickly became a rock and roll workhorse. These were fitted with a dog ear P-90 pickup on a resonant lightweight mahogany body. Matched with a stud wrap tailpiece, the clarity, punch and power made these a favourite of the indie crowd.

This Guitar has a few small scuffs and dings in the finish, mainly around the edges of the headstock with one larger ding on the back bottom edge. The back of the neck is clean and the frets are in excellent condition having been cleaned up in our workshop and still have plenty of life left in them. It’s the perfect guitar for a wide fat tonal palette that will keep up with the big hitters...

The plastics are in good shape, the pickguard hasn’t warped but has cracked in a couple of places around the screw holes. The bridge and maestro tailpiece are in good condition and the guitar stays in tune well.

Fully set up in our workshop with a fresh set of D'Addario strings. Serial number: 266098. Weight: 5 lbs 4 oz. Nut width: 42.8 mm. Depth at the 1st fret: 19 mm. Depth at 12th 24.5 mm. The volume pot is dated to 1965. The tone pot date is covered in solder and therefore unreadable.
